Technological Disruption in Defense and Security: From Military Revolution to Multi-Domain Operations
Abstract
Technology has historically maintained a close relationship with warfare. Advances in defense-related technologies or the emergence of new technological capabilities often confer tactical, operational, or strategic advantages, potentially enabling decisive outcomes in defeating an adversary or serving as a deterrent to potential conflicts. Platform design, weapons and sensor integration, and the tactics governing their employment are intrinsically interconnected and must be carefully balanced. As Vego (2020) notes, naval or maritime strategy, operational art, and naval tactics are interdependent components, with naval tactics being particularly susceptible to the influence of technological innovation.
