The South Pacific Permanent Comission
Abstract
The Permanent Commission of the South Pacific (CPPS) is an intergovernmental organization established in the Santiago Declaration of 1952, that established the thesis of 200 nautical miles of territorial sea. Its permanent headquarters is the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, where is the General Secretary and the organization operate. The CPPS is made up of Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Its mission is to coordinate and promote the maritime policies of the Member States, for the conservation and responsible use of natural resources and their environment, for the benefit of the comprehensive and sustainable development of their peoples. In addition, the CPPS works in areas such as
the protection of the marine environment, marine biodiversity and marine and meteorological observation.
