Consequences of China's Grand Strategy on Peru's National Security
Abstract
The research focuses on China's "Grand Strategy" used to regain the nation's greatness. This strategy has significantly impacted the world, radiating its influence in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Chinese objectives in Latin America include resource control, investment, financing of development projects, and strengthening their influence.
Despite the benefits of Chinese investment, there are reports of its impact on national security and interference in strategic decision-making. This was evident in the case of Honduras, which severed diplomatic ties with Taiwan, believing that closer ties with China could improve its economy. Consequently, the objectives of this strategy could affect national security, including resource exploitation, financial traps, and influence in strategic decisions.
The article explores the implications of China's "Grand Strategy" for Peru's national security, defining its concept and implementation. It then explains Chinese priorities in Latin America related to resources, investment, financing, and relationship consolidation. Finally, the use of Chinese national power instruments and Peru's relative disadvantage require a proper assessment of China's real intentions and their implications for Peru's national security.
