Peru's geopolitical interests in the Eastern China Sea
Abstract
The present article aims to identify Peru's geopolitical interests in the East China Sea (ECS), starting with the determination, firstly, of the geopolitical significance of said geographical area for Peru, and secondly, of the geopolitical interests of the coastal states and other countries in the same region. It was developed using a phenomenological qualitative methodological approach, based on information gathered through interviews and documentary analysis. It concludes with the proposal of a list of economic, security, and political geopolitical interests of the coastal states, other countries, and Peru in the ECS, identifying that Peru should prioritize its economic geopolitical interests as they
are directed towards achieving both internal and external conditions for a more effective utilization of trade with Asia in general and with the coastal states of the East China Sea in particular, while security and political interests are contingent upon the former.
